Softonomy have announced the release of the Ireland-specific version of PackProf - the optimal software solution for managing packaging data and producing Packaging Waste compliance reports. Many businesses have a legal responsibility to produce detailed Packaging Waste reports for Local Authorities and Repak, as mandated by EU and Irish legislation. These reports must detail and categorize the amounts of packaging material that are consumed within and produced by a company. PackProf™ (packaging professional) is the software solution that enables businesses to meet this challenging task.

According to the legislation companies are mandated to report exact levels of packaging to Authorities and experts have found that this process, if performed manually or without a specialised software application like PackProf, is time-consuming, difficult and prone to error”.

The recovery and cost of Packaging Waste rests on all businesses that handle packaging at any stage of the supply chain. An organisation is obligated to comply if it sells or otherwise supplies products with packaging of 25 tonnes or more p.a. onto the Irish market and if it has a turnover of at least EUR1m (note: an obligated entity is called a “major producer”). Failure to comply with the regulations can lead to prosecution: fines of up to EUR12.7 million and imprisonment.

Built in association with Partners and Customers, PackProf has been designed to manage packaging data and packaging waste compliance. The packaging data is combined with operational data, such as Sales/Purchase volumes, and exact weights of each material: paper, glass, plastic, etc, are calculated. The results are then fed into the compliance reports. PackProf is customised to work smoothly with the processes of each Client eg: operational data is loaded via programmed interfaces. Each report can be saved and a verifiable audit log shows how each value is calculated.
